Jose Ramirez

Outreach Chair

José Ramirez has been working with HIV/AIDS prevention and outreach for the last ten years after being diagnosed with HIV at the age of 17. He advocates for Latino LGBTQ youth, immigration issues and the Latino community. He started an HIV/AIDS prevention program in El Salvador and worked as a project coordinator at the La Clínica del Pueblo with the Empodérate program coordinating HIV prevention and education programs for Gay and Transgender immigrant young adults.

He continued his health education work with Transgender Health Empowerment (T.H.E) in 2012 and currently works with youth in Maryland at Identity, Inc. In 2010, Director Susan Koch released "The Other City," a documentary which brings attention to DC's HIV/AIDS epidemic. The film highlights Jose's enthusiasm to stand up to fight the spread of HIV/AIDS in DC through education, community outreach, and dialogue.

José joined the LHP Board in 2010 with an emphasis on contributing his skills of community organizing and youth mobilization. He co-chaired the Latino GLBT History Project's 5th Annual DC Latino Pride celebration in June 2011.
