Board of Directors Responsibilities / Responsabilidades de la Mesa Directiva

 

1. To attend the monthly meetings

2. To serve on the Board of Directors for a minimum of 2 years: 1/1/15-12/31/16

Servir en la mesa directiva por el mínimo de dos años (max = three 2-year terms)

3. To actively participate in the planning and execution of LHP activities/events (select 1 committee) and a commitment to lead a committee or special project (select 1 committee: Resource Development, Marketing & Communications, Community Engagement, Finance, Historical Archives, and Personnel Committee)

5. Must demonstrate a passionate and commitment to LHP’s mission and programs to provide LGBTQ Latina/o history, culture, and education programs for metropolitan Washington, DC

*Board member applications are due August 15, 2015. LHP will invite potential board member candidates to an in person meeting in  January.

*Current open positions include: President, Treasurer, and general board of directors positions. President and Treasurer require on average 5 hours per week to invest in the project. Please indicate the position(s) in which you are interested. The president is responsible for chairing the board and leading the fundraising efforts for $50,000 per year LHP budget. The Treasurer will work closely with the Board of Directors and an independent bookkeeper to maintain the organization's financial records, report on monthly finance reports, and oversee payments for grant programs.



VOLUNTEER STEERING COMMITTEE

Interested individuals in donating their time and talent to preserve the history of, educate and empower metro DC's LGBT Latino/a community should complete our Volunteer Form and email Jesus Chavez, Program Coordinator, Latino GLBT History Project at sponsor @ LatinoGLBTHistory.org. You may volunteer for a one time event or join the 1-year steering committee and committee to severing on one major event planning committee, and supporting LHP for one full year by attending and promoting events, and encouraging your friends to volunteer and donate.


INTERNSHIPS

The Latino GLBT History Project (LHP), a volunteer-led project to preserve the history of, educate and empower LGBT Latinos/as in metropolitan DC, often welcomes qualified interns. Interns are responsible for special projects and events as well as supporting administrative tasks such as updating the LHP website, weekly and monthly newsletters. The Latino GLBT History Project is currently seeking the following interns:

  • Archivist, Public Education, Communications, Development, Website Development, Graphic Design, Latino Pride, Women’s History Month, Hispanic LGBTQ Heritage Celebration, Latino Institute.

Internships involve both administrative and more substantive work on LGBT Latino historical and community issues. Interested students and community organizers should be able to work independently and express clear ideas about which project they would like to work on and what contribution they would like to make. Prospective interns are encouraged to visit the website www.LatinoGLBTHistory.org and familiarize themselves with the programs, events and mission of the Latino GLBT History Project. 

Interns hours are flexible between day-time, evening and weekend hours. Intern may work at the LHP Office between the hours of 12:00 PM and 6:00 PM Monday through Friday. Meetings with supervisors of LHP committees will be conducting in the evenings and on weekends. Interns are asked to commit to a minimum of 8 to 16 hours per week, for a minimum time commitment of three months. The LHP Office is located at The DC Center for the LGBT Community, 2000 14th St. NW, Suite 105, Washington, DC 20009. Work assignments may be a combination of on-, off-site and virtual assignments.

Unfortunately LHP cannot offer paid internships at this time. Every effort will be made, however, to meet the requirements of your internship.

  • Academic requirements for internship (if applicable)
  • One writing sample
